    petcock gasket

I hope I don't get beat up for asking this but.. where do I get the gaskets or o-rings I'll need to install a new petcock on my bike?

I've looked at about 2 dozen threads on petcocks, reviewed Bass Cliff's website, and can't find an answer to this question..

I'm replacing my petcock, just ordered the new petcock from Z1, for my 1980 Suzuki GS850G.

I ordered a vacuum petcock, just replacing with the kind I already have on the bike. I gather that there are gaskets or o-rings used for the two bolts that fasten the petcock to my tank.

So, any idea where I can get these? Or do new gaskets come with the new petcock?

I've sent a couple of e-mails to Z1 but haven't gotten an answer. I haven't been able to call during the week 'cause of work so I thought maybe someone on this board might know.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi,

From any of the dozen or so online OEM vendors in your "mega-welcome" (You bookmarked it, right?), you'll want #4, part number 44348-31051. They actually call it an "O ring" in the parts fiche.

I think the new petcock should come with the O ring. But don't quote me on that.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

Thanks! I am honored that you answered my post so quickly!

I've already ordered the part, so I'll see if it comes with the o-ring. If not, I know I can get it from Bike Bandit.

And your bike looks amazing now! I am completely envious.

        Aww, shucks.

My bike still needs little things here and there. I'm just glad to be riding again.

You should know that Bike Bandit doesn't use real Suzuki part numbers. But they will still have the part in their fiche. I have found that I usually receive my parts from BB a little more quickly than from other vendors, but they are not the cheapest. Keep us informed.

        Thank you for your indulgence,

          Separate

You'll need to order the rubber gasket separately...if you need it. If the one on your bike looks OK, it will probably do just fine. (I've reused them and never had a leak.)

(Suzuki, like most manufacturers, rarely includes 2 items together. If you need 2 parts, you pay for 2 parts. I've noticed very few exceptions.)

Thanks for the info.. I might just go ahead and order the part to be on the safe side. I'm pretty sure my petcock is an original part...

btw, I rode through your area last summer visiting a sister in Sacramento.. is the freeway through Auburn still all torn up? That was probably the roughest part of my trip through California..pretty bumpy!

Well, this is California so ALL of the freeways are torn up. (I've been to lots of 3rd world countries with better roads than California)....truly.

Are you sure you rode through Auburn? You most likely wouldn't unless you came through Reno. Coming that way, the freeway from the Nevada border is probably the worst stretch in California....which is saying a lot! I'm guessing you rode down I-5 (also very poor most of the way after crossing the Oregon border). California is totally broke and spending priorities are bizarre.
