    motad 4into1 help gs850/1000

Hi all. i have a Gs850 project and recently got hold of a second hand motad system (off a gs1000). unfortunately it did not come with the bracket which mounts from the rear of the silencer to the frame. i am planning on making one but wondered if anyone had a pic of one and also where it bolts onto the frame of the bike. so i can work out some dimensions. any help with this is much appreciated. many thanks, john

Hi John and welcome to the GSR. In answer to your question it depends which model 850 you've got. On the earlier models you have an exhaust mounting point on the frame and the thing bolts to there. On later models that part of the frame is removed and replaced with an alloy bracket - the exhaust bolts to there, using the rear footrest bolt.

      Exhaust

firstly throw that exhaust in nearest skip, dont turn round and forget about it
they restrict Gs to buggery, buy yourself a Harris or V&H system or a stock one.
      been there so i know.

Or better still Steve, a Marving Race 4-1. The missus has relented (well, it cost me....) and I've just been allowed to buy one.

Piccies to follow when I've got it fitted and I might play tunes on it as I've got the matching system already on my 1100F.

not sure if this will help ya but its what i did on my 1100. made it out of 1/8 inch aluminum made a cardboard piece first then cut it out on aluminum and used the inside of the rear footrest for a mount

Just be careful and check the header, down pipe lengths, as I recall the length of the down pipes are slightly longer on the 4 into 1 off the 1000 than they are on the 850.
I have only run Cowley pipes on mine, and I know they were, not sure about yours though?
They were just long enough to make the pipe fit awkward and put the collecter a little too far beneath the motor, which also messed with the back mounting, as the angle was not right.

Thanks for the replys fellas. yeah i noticed the downpipes were slightly longer than the rusty on standard ones i had on but not too bad. think i will be sticking with the motad for now but its good to no what to look for if i need another. mine is a 1980 model. ive had it running but their was very little exhaust on there to speak of at the time so it was rough. looking forward to getting it running properly.

Well then, a piece of flat bar suitably fashioned and drilled both ends should see the back secured properly, and you back on the road in no time, let us know when it happens.
