    Quick GS1150 BS36SS question...

I've got a stock '84 GS1150 (GSX-1100EF) and am wondering what the external diamater of the carburettor mouths is so I can order some individual 'pod' filters for it.

I think its 46mm from memory, but would rather have somone back me up on that. I'd really like to not have to pull the boots off just to get a set of calipers in there haha.

    Cheers - boingk

2-1/4" offset ovals is what you want.
if not K&N at least get a set of correct look a likes from APE or plessor or someone for around 60 bucks US.
    sorry no MM measurements.
a lot of CV carbs 750/1000/1100/1150 ect.. plus mik racing carbs take these.

    PS
add a st.3 jet kit to your order or the carbs will never be close to right..NEVER.

I'm not positive but I'm thinking the 46s are for the VMs maybe? Some reason I seem to recall them being 52s... If you can wait till morning I can pop one off my soon to be not mine 1100 that has 36s on it and get a measurement for you...

          GEEEEEEEEEEEEESH!!
WHEN I MOVE TO CANADA I'LL START USING THERE MEASUREMENTS!!
          i like canada!
          here:
          2-1/4 inch = 1 divided by 4, plus 2, x 25.4 = 57.15 (57mm)

Hahaha, good call. Only problem is that I'm in Australia - waaay better than Canada

Cafekid - 52mm sounds about the right ballpark looking at the boots, and if you've got a bike there ready to measure that'd be brilliant. Mines my sole transport at the moment and I haven't got a whole heap of time to work on her, hence the reluctance to take the boots off myself.

if not K&N at least get a set of correct look alikes, plus Dynokit St.3
I rejetted a GS850 with 4-1 and pods, and it seemed to run fine with just a mainjet change. Pulled like a freight train from 2,000rpm.

These are the things I'm looking at: Link I know they aren't top-quality items, but I've used them before and they seem to be alright. Very hard to beat for the price.

              Cheers all - boingk

I was about to call bullchit on you hand jetting an 850'for pods and a pipe, but then realized you're out of country which means you have adjustable needles, which you can get pretty close with, but it's still not optimal. I'm going with Terry (Blowerbike) here in saying a stage three kit (the needles, use whatever friggin brand jets ya want... Just make sure they're equivellant to the DJ size) is BEST for squeezing all she's got.

I'll grab my calipers in the morn and take a measurement to double check for you but I'll bet bullocks to barn yards that Terry is right on the money... He's prolly forgot more than I'll ever know bout this stuff...

Oh no!!! Listen mate, if you put those Junkers on there you're gonna pull you're Aussie hair out tryin to get that thing to run right... I'd tape coffee filters over my carbs before I put those worthless things on there... I've got four or five sets in the garbage in the shop from bikes I've worked on, and that's the first and only place they should go... Has all to do with flow velocity and turbulence... I'm tellin ya... Hit up APE here in the states.. K&N lookalikes just the quality, half the price. Those emgo filters I wouldn't use to sift sand with. Could maybe make a neat set of Christmas tree orniments with em... Or ear rings for your sheila.

No worries guys, although the 850 did run pretty well with them. How about these? Not much more expensive, and a decently respected brand as well. Link

you'd still be chasing jets and needle settings all over the shop unless you get the real short ones and put a 30mm long tube between the pod and the carb inlet, it is about the airflow into the balance chamber of the diaphragm, if the flow of air is smooth into the carb inlet, you can use a plumbers rubber reducer with a chux glued over it and get really good breathing and a (little) bit of dust protection................ don't ask me how I know, it was the last act of a desperate man................and was a piece of P*** to jet it too.

Yeah, I know the bike will need a complete going over with the carbs, but thats exactly what I'm prepared to do. It took me a few months to get my Aprilia RS125 right, but gee I was glad when I did. Theres just something about running a bike thats performing its absolute best, you know?

And as for plumbers reducer with chux...you must've been pretty desperate!

Any word on that outside diameter measurement, Cafe_Kid?

2.250 divided by .03937 (1 mm) gives 57.15 mm . Much easier, IMO.
