fix one thing and now something else need more help
does anyone know the cheepest place for carb parts i got air box sealed new air filter new oil now with gas in it one of my carbs is leaking gas in the air box and oil is over full now so i know gas is in the oil so i know the carb needs to be done any ones input would help what do you think is the problem pin float??Tags: None

HI,
You'll need a can of Berryman's carb dip and a set of carb O-rings from http://cycleorings.com. Completely disassemble the carbs according to this guide. Dip the carb bodies and other metal parts (no rubber!) for 24 hours each. Rinse them, spray every passage with carb cleaner, blow them out with compressed air. Then reassemble with the new O-rings. You should replace the float bowl gaskets and the rubber plugs on the pilot jets. Then you'll adjust the float height, bench sync, put them on the bike, adjust the idle mixture screws, and then vacuum sync. That's it. Most of the information you'll need is on my website.
The cheapest place for float bowl gaskets and pilot jet plugs? Probably www.partsnmore.com but they have a $35 minimum order. Try www.partshark.com or www.cyclepartsnation.com. There's a huge list of vendors in your "mega-welcome". Shop around.

i just wonder if the float hight might have something to do with it ?? its just the one carb gas is pouring out the boot anyone have the same problem??

Which carb is it? If its the one that does he vaccume for your petcock it could be that your petcock is bad causing gas to flow through the vaccum hose. I have that problem on my 650 right now.I didnt do it I swear !!

Hi,
Mr. kparkfan speaks true. The petcock is always a suspect when the carbs are overflowing. See: Overflowing Carbs.

its the carb on the other side of the clutch the last carb if sitting on the bike its the last one on the left

I just had a similar problem after doing some similar work. I put in a new air filter element and sealed up the air box and solved a mystery hole/drain tube issue, closed it all up and gas started running out of the airbox and the air intake boot on carb #1 (left most). Thanks to these guys I didn't waste a lot of time on the airbox or the carbs. It was the petcock. As far as I know there is not mechanical connection that would cause my airbox to effect my petcock. My best guess was that it was about to go anyway and my pushing and pulling to get the covers off was all it took. That's what happened with my bike, I hope it's that simple with yours. Something else I've learned on this sight - always investigate the cheapest of the possible causes first.

1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

Just so that we all understand, we number the cylinders, carbs, etc, from left to right as we sit on the bike. The cylinder/carb under your clutch hand (or nearest your left foot) is #1 while the cylinder/carb on the brake lever side (or nearest your right foot) is #4.
Which carb are you having trouble with?

Do you have a service manual for your bike? If not, you can get one from BassCliff's site.
Go to any one of his posts (he has one in this thread), there is a link to his site in his signature.
Once you look in the manual, you will see that the height for the floats is 22.4mm, +/- 1mm.
You will also see exactly where to measure that 22.4mm, as that is critical, too.
If you get to the point of changing parts, why not do all four carbs?
Think about it this way: most likely, all the parts are the same age.
Unless something catastrophic has happened, if one goes bad, the others are right behind.
