    78 gs100 vm26ss gohst

First off - Thank you everyone for your vast knowlege and willingness to share, I have been scouring threw the site for the last few weeks. Thank you everyone

So.. I picked up a 78 gs1000 on cl for $20 bucks. turns out it has compression about 140 across the board (cold). electrical was jacked (ripped it all out, making a bobber with minimal ele.). stator tested good. got a cbr r/r on ebay. started with ignition side of ele. built a points operated electronic ignition, will post in electrical section... but heres the site I got the schematics and info from - http://home.comcast.net/~loudgpz/GPZweb/index.html#home .

As for my question - carbs vm26ss cleaned em new carb kits (gaskets, o rings, valves). #2 and #4 are leaking out of overflow (just a drip.. like water torcher).. I have swapped floats, with 1 & 3, swapped valves, plugged vacume line on #3... still 2 & 4 leak. ... yes 1 & 3 have gas in bowls, and float hights are set (25mm). I am at a loss, please what am i missing. I have this twilight zone thing happening, try differant stuff and get the same results.
    - my test set up is a lawn mower gas tank hanging with 3ft of hose and a filter... carbs off bike also hanging.
    Thank you,
    Matt Canaday

I once had a Kawasaki that was doing this and had me scratching my head until I realized the brass vent tube inside the float bowl itself was not there. Are you measuring the float height at the correct point? Just thinking off the top of my head. Oh and tell me you didn't actually get a 1978 Suzuki GS1000 for $20???? and more came with it than the front brake caliper....wow

hey thank you for your fast responce.. yes the tubes are in.. and yes $20 bucks, it was posted on cl at 9am and I saw it at 9:15am and picked it up at 10:30 haha. but, all the aluminum was white (some scotch bright pads with soap and water cured that) fork tubes are shot.. so on.. I have a small bone yard of parts so I just need the motor and neck tube, I'm piecing and fabbing everything from there.

        Your carb kits included valves?

        What valves?

Carb kits are notorious for being inferior quality. K&Ls?

not k&l's ... didn't find those till after I ordered from obb.
the valves are all brass (no rubber).
problem is that even when I switched the vales from 1&3 (of which do not leak) to 2&4, 2&4 still leaked... doesn't really make any logical sense.

GREAT point, Lynn! Do the floats, float?

checked the floats in an open dish of gas.. they float but not real great.. but there the only ones of this type i have to compare them too. also even after switching 1 with 2 and 3 with 4, still 1&3 don't leak and 2&4 do. I am kinda hesitant too just order more parts for the sake of getting the same result.
                question's
                - can the vacume operated petcock (or lack there of) have anything to do with it
                - and how high can i safely set the floats (tried 27mm to no avail)

got it.. it was the vent tubes after all. they both had a hairline crack the long ways. a little silver solder and all is well.
thank you all so much for your help.
