Wondering if anyone has had this service done on a set of smoothbores? Or, if they've had any work done by them and can make a reccomendation? I've heard some mixed reviews

$49 seems excessive. I'm sure you can do the same repair for way less if you do some research to find the appropriate insert and tools to install it. You also could just drill and tap oversize and call it done.

depends on if you have the tools. If it was just one carb maybe worth $49 but if all 4 I would try and fix myself. Not sure if a jig would required; I've never seen one of these.

If your threads are not stripped out in any of the jet blocks there is no need for this service. "If it ain't broke dont fix it" type of deal.

If the threads are stripped out, the jet block really needs to be indicated in or have an appropriate jig/fixture, and then drilled oversize. The insert would be best made from brass, and can be threaded or pressed in, but allignment is critical so not to wear out the needle or needle jet after the repair.

For the time involved in doing the work, like a one off situation, in opinion it is not too bad of a price concidering machine shop labor rates. Return shipping included in the $49 cost it states.

I have heard mixed reviews on dealing with WiredGeorge as well. I have my own opinion on that matter, but no need to voice it.

The jet blocks I have in a set of VM29s are zinc diecast, not aluminum.

Three of them to do. Might as well do the fourth. I don't have the tools to do this right & am concerned I couldn't put the seat in the correct location. Probably not a big deal for skilled machinist.

It's been a while since I rebuilt some of these carbs, but I recall the jetblock being held in place by a small phillips head screw. What's the big deal with getting the screw in the "correct location"? I don't remember there being risk of the jet block being off center, thus wearing the needle, but rather the throat could be rotated if the screw is off location. How much difference could it make is the throat was rotated .1 degree or so if you drilled off center? I know what I would do.

It's the threads that hold the emulsion tube & ultimately the main jet in place.
I think it would need to be exactly right, otherwise the the main jet may be located to high or low in the bowl or the jet needle will won't fall back into the correct location.

The threads for the little screw that secures them is fine
