Just got a 850 gl running. Main jets look to be 180, Has 4-1 exhaust and I assumed pods. Installed pods.
Runs like a pig below 6000, almost like it's not getting enough fuel, after that like a raped ape.
I did replace the intake O rings.

Sugestions welcomed. Not used to working on anything but stock.

Does it have the air box ? Or pods

I wanted to go back to the box but none of the 4 boxes that I have, have the right size boots. So to answer the question. Pods at this time. The main jets are oversized from stock, so assume the PO was running them, but they were not with the bike.

Dynojet kit would maybe help. My GS850 had 4 into one and pods and ran crappy, I got a dynojet kit with adjustable needles and a bunch of jet sizes for $100. A little tuning the bike could really fly!

Stock mains are 115. If your jets actually show "118", they might be DJ items and would be the equivalent of Mikuni 110.

NOT the correct direction to adjust your jet sizes.

My son's 850 has 120 mains with stock airbox and a header. With pods and a header, I would suspect somewhere between 125 and 130 would be close.

I had the 130's on my GS850, I think my dynojet needles were 2 or 3 notches up. I remember having to drill out the hole in the slides a touch bigger, bit came in the kit. The bike could flatten your eyeballs after I got it set right. Took it apart 4 times to get the correct jet-needle combo.

I have a dynojet kit for an 1100 but don't think that it will work. Just trying to get something running for the rally here next month. I will check the mains again, maybe I read it wrong.
I kind of thought that it was the combo of jets and settings.

Well I think that this might be the problem, the mains are not 118 they are 180s. A little large I think.
