why not just use ss bolts and anti sieze them regularly, say every 2 months? saves the cost and hassle of a nut splitter and it makes life a whole lot easier if you want to do a head refurb without struggling to pull 8 locktited studs from the exhaust ports. ss studs not regularly lubed will weld themselves in the head if not done regularly. they WONT last forever

try getting a nut splitter on the inner No3 cylinder or a decent allen key on a well lubed allen bolt. i know which one will be easier to get out!

Surely if you remove & re-install bolts regularly that will wear out the Aluminium threads in the head.....

That is exactly the issue I have with my 750 which has worn a Bassani most of it's life hence the bolts have been removed a number of times for oil & filter changes. They still have thread there, it holds but it's loose (peaks have worn thin I suspect) & the bolts back out over time because of that.

I will be going for studs on mine this time. 2 nuts locked together & a socket is as easy to work with as an allen key

yes Salty Monk..the two nuts locked to gether is how i installed mine too..just cant convince most people that stainless steel will NEVER rust or corrode though as far as the nuts getting stuck on a stud. I have had all my bikes that way from the first time i got them and thats been 3 yaers for the oldest one and they turn off as nicely as if they were new...and since you dont have to keep running a bolt in and out of the head, the threads dont get worn out in the head either.

WRONG..What is said was "that ..IF..it got stuck for some god forsaken reason you could just use a nut splitter to cut the nut off the stud" I never said i had one..was gonna go buy one ..or had ever had the need for one!! Was responding to the question as to what "IF" it was being fussy. Does that refresh your memory a bit? Trust me and i am not trying to be an azz..youll never need one anyway. anti seize them in the head if you really feel it will add some comfort for you but that all youll really ever need to do. The stainless will not corrode or rust..it just wont happen.

Did you consider installing Thread inserts (Heli-coil or the like)? A stud (stainless or otherwise) installed in weak threads, is still a threaded joint on a weak threads. I would think the stresses are still the same.

Yes... I have another thread going about this so didn't want to Hi-jack. I will like Helicoil at least 2 of them.

Torque on these bolts is quoted at 12lbft so the threads don't have to be that strong....
