    GS450 Idle Issues

Choke on = very high idle @ around 7+k rpm
    Choke off = same conditions
Choke in the middle = random idle surge from 1.5k - 7+k rpm

I assume carb issues. Anyone have a suggestion before I tear into the carbs?

    Hi,

I would suggest tearing into the carbs.

But seriously, here is the procedure... http://www.thegsresources.com/gs_carbrebuild.htm

A complete disassembly of the carbs and dipping of the carb bodies and other hardware (for up to 24 hours) is usually recommended. Then reassemble with an O-ring kit from http://cycleorings.com .

And be sure your air intake system is tight with no leaks. This usually means new intake boots and intake boot O-rings, tightly sealed airbox (we just use weatherstripping these days), and maybe even replace the boots between the airbox and the carbs. Then all you'll need is a valve adjustment, a carb bench sync, then a carb vacuum sync, make sure the cables are lubed and routed correctly, etc. Of course, this is all assuming that you have the stock airbox and exhaust on your motorcycle.

Forgive me if I state the obvious.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

That's pretty much what I was thinking. It doesn't have an airbox right now either. It has pods. The other 450 we got has the airbox and I'm going to put that on it but I don't imagine that would make it idle like that. Sounds more like a passage stopped up somewhere.
