'78 GS750 Carb Small Mixture Screw Setting
Rebuilt carbs for 1978 GS750 and need to put the small mixture screw back to the factory settings (or whatever runs best). These are the small needle looking screws with springs that are in the front coming up from the bottom of the carbs. Books say they are factory set and do not touch but I took them out. What should I set them at ??? Any help would be appreciated. I am going to set the large airmixture screws on the side at 2 turns out. Thanks.Tags: None

Hi,
From what I understand of the VM carbs, start with the fuel screw at about 3/4 turn from lightly seated and the air screw about 1.5 turns from lightly seated. This should get your running. Then adjust as necessary.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff

on the 750s at least it goes by engine number because if you look at the charts i mentioned it will show that carbs will have different mains and that determines the jet settings..MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Great guys. This gives me a good start. I will look at the numbers stamped on the carbs and then adjust according to chart, etc. I am rebuilding the carbs for a customer far away. We ahve to ship the carbs back and forth. Makes it a little tough to sync in and fine tune, for sure. Thanks again, GS Resources rocks.

you dont go by any numbers on the carbs.. On the engine ( tranny) just above the clutch cover there is a flat spot with GS750-XXX stamped in it. That is the engine number and the number you use to cross reference with the chart..follow me??MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
