    Cheapo or K&N ?

These pods came with the bike.(1980 GS1000 with Kerker)
As the title asks are they the cheapo's or K&N? The shape looks like the cheapo's but the color is reddish. The cheapo's appear blue/grey from pics I have seen.On the other hand I see no K&N markings.

My K&N is grey before I oil it with the red K&N oil. It also says "k&n" in the rubber.

If it does not say "K&N", it's not K&N.

      Simple as that.

those will work as they are K&N cones.
the larger offset oval would be better but i'd keep my money.
wash in a bucket with dish soapy warm water..shake around real good then rinse in clear water..shake around real good.
then let air dry(no compressed air) and they are new again.
i don't like oil/i have never used filter oil.
unless you ride in dirty air..aka gravel lanes and such a lot..
your bike should run the same with filter on/filters off..pretty close to the same.
        oiled filters richen it up.

          .
those look like K&N cones from days gone by.
the narrow clamp/the molded throat for the clamp to ride/the pink color(oiled)gauze.
          going off of memory....
i'm not sure that the cones said K&N or not.

Always rinse them from the inside to push the dirt out of the filter.

I just washed my K & N cones and they look very much like those but my chrome covers say K & N though. I don't recall what the rubbers say.

                HMMMMMM,
well now i don't know 100% for sure if these are K&N or not.
it seems like you could get these with a chrome back or rubber back.
and i do remember the rubber back filters having K&N molded into them.

They appear to be cheapos, 'upgraded' with K&N filter oil. The oil serves as part of the filtering media on the K&N filters. I know users too, who do not oil them (rarely even wash them, let alone re-oil), but the filtering ability is compromised....different strokes for different folks I guess. I wash mine every couple years & lightly re-oil.

look at the clamp and the raised area where the clamp rides.
look at the construction of the filter.
these for 100% sure are not emgo's..no way.
also the throat area is the same size as the opening(appears).
the cheap filters use automotive style wide clamps.
i have never seen K&N look a likes in the cones..only in the offset oval style.
even still those use the wide clamps.

Yup, looking at his latest pic, they don't appear to be Emgo. At least the ones I had seen had a small flange right in the throat.....questionable engineering, that would seem to restrict the flow.
But there are possibly other cheapo filters available, other than EMGO?
