    Just cant win...

Yesyurday I go to go for a ride..carbs dumpin fuel out the overflow....pull the carbs..pull the floats/needle and seats..clean everything and re-assemble..install on the bike and no leaks work perfectly..ride all day..this morning up early to go ride..fire up the bike..no issues..get 10 miles from home stop for breakfast and got gas coming out the overflow again...Grrrrrrr!!! Carbs are clean floats are at a perfect 26mm..no issues all year ...frustrated as hell...no apparent reason I can see..gonna eat and see what happens.

Tell me about it! Rode my 77 750 home last week - puddle of fuel on my garage floor. Been out again today with no fuel breather issues?

        Is it the original petcock?

The float valves are designed to seal against the small amount of gasoline in the fuel line, not the head pressure generated by four gallons of gas a foot above them with nothing else holding it back.

Just got home from breakfast and a ride..no fuel issues at all...tank is pretty clean..nothing visible..may have been something in it that broke loose but who knows...yep..original petcock but put in an oem rebuild kit this spring and hadnt had any issues all summer (5,000Miles) until now...only thing i can think of is some crap got in the tank or maybe some rust broke loose that i couldnt see,not much for a season left here in MN so I'll deal with it til i do the tear down again this winter...thanks for the replies..chalkin this up to owning and old classic bike.
