    So How Bad is This?

One of my 4 fuel inlet needle valve assemblies had no filter. I guess it was run this way for quite a while. I have a filter on order and hope the little red plastic base of the filter is included. The fiches are not detailed enough to see it and the rep I talked to wasn't sure. How bad is it to run the bike that way? I was thinking of putting the carbs back together and testing the bike instead of waiting 'til the end of next week for the filter. Sorry for the poor focus on the pic...

As long as the filter on the petcock is intact and the fuel line is in good shape, it probably won't hurt much, but it will be nice to have it installed.

      Many bikes never had these.

      Don't worry about it.

Thanks guys. I figured that might be the case but I've figured wrong about this bike before.

I wonder where it went? Is it stuck in the carb? Mine have never come off(I've made a weak attempt). The new seat should have it attached, they have when I have seen them.

The plastic and the screen are one part. You'll get the whole thing.

I checked and it's not in the carb body. Someone has been is these carbs previously. Can I change the subject and ask one dumb question? Am I correct in thinking the air jet, main jet, and pilot fuel jet are all put in fully seated and tight when reassembling? And the only adjustments after reassembly are the air (mixture) screw and the idle speed adjusters?

Correct - make them all snug, not gorilla tight...

Assuming you have just dis-assembled & cleaned (dipped) your carbs here's some initial set-up info:

I would set the mixture screws at 2.5 turns out from "lightly" seated as a starting point. Make sure you do a good bench sync on the carbs as well before installing the rack back on the bike.

Keep the idle adjust knob turned in a little so the butterflys are open just a bit - keep your hand near the kill switch if it starts and immediately revs to red line; then turn the idle adjust knob back a little and try again.

Thanks Hikermikem. I've been reading up on that and have it covered I think. Now if I can figure out how to reattach the choke cable at #4. I didn't realize how long the carbs would be off and can't remember exactly how to get that ball in there. I'm looking for a detailed pic somewhere.
