    Jets on 82 650

    Hey, I have a 1982 GS650, and I have replaced the stock airbox with 4 individual chrome air filters. I know that I have to increase the jets to match the new increased airflow, but I dont know the original size. I plan on upping the jets either 10 or 20%, does anyone know the original jet size and how much bigger I should go?

    I do believe you run a stock 92.5 main jet and a 37.5 pilot jet.
    With the pods I'd go up to at least a 105 main and a 40 pilot jet. You'll also need to shim the needle or you'll have a very noticable bog.

      The original jet sizes depend on which model 650 you own. The "E" model has 97.5 mains and the "G" model has 110 size mains. Both models use 42.5 pilots.

          On an interesting note, my stock low mileage E has mains labled "100". As far as I know this bike was never tampered with.

            Thanks for all the responses. Ill have to check which model it is, I know the engine code is 104160. As you may have figured out by now this is my first bike I have tried to refurbish myself. I wouldnt say Im completley ignorant around an engine but it is a learning experience. Like 'shim the needle', I dont know what that means. Ill get some pics up as soon as its back together and running. It died on me a few weeks after I bought it from someone that did not care for it, I took the gas tank off and it sounded like a morroca, so I figured the inside of the tank rusted out and was shooting garbage into the engine. Thanks for all the replies, I wish I had some knowledge to share instead of just absorbing it.

              The only thing you have to know as far as models go is whether your bike is a chain or shaft drive. The chain drive is a "E" model and the shaft drive is a "G" model.

              In the end it does not really matter what model you have because the difference in jetting for both models is in my opinion because of the different air intake setup on each model and because you have removed this and installed pods then just jet away.

                The 650's are pretty well known to be Lean.

                I have the G, and even she runs pretty lean with a little bit leaky exhaust.
