Once I've got the nubs out, what can I do to sharpen the screws? I've considered sandpaper, a pocket knife, teeth, etc :P

I have frequently, delicately-- very delicately-- cleaned out pilot orifices by using a 4-5" long piece of old "high E" string (the thin one) from one of my guitars. Bend the end to make a 3/8" long leg at about a 45 deg. angle, turn the carb upside down, squirt some good carb solvent into the holes, and then noodle the wire straight in & out a few times. Don't wiggle it, since that might re-size the holes!

That's a good idea...I don't have any extra violin strings around though, usually I do! Maybe it's time to replace the e string.

Any ideas for resharpening the screws?

I have a drill but no sharpening stone. Is there some other way to do it? How soft are they? Could I use a knife? Sandpaper?

It would mean spending a few bucks but maybe a fish hook sharpener.

I think a skilled person could sharpen them with a file and drill motor. You don't want to change the taper angle, just sharpen the point like a pencil so the point moves back and the taper starts near the threads. Nothing to loose in trying...

Turns out I don't really have a file, the skills, or the time in this next week to do this myself. I have a lot of exams to take/study for. Is there someone here on the forums that has experience doing it? I could mail them to you and paypal you some moneys.

If anybody is willing to sharpen my pilot jets I would pay shipping both ways plus ten bucks or something. Any takers?

I would do it, having done it before, but I don't trust my workmanship to be perfect. I could easily ruin one.

If you're willing I am. At the very worst I'll have to find a new one or two, right?

After various efforts I have failed to get the little nubs out of the carbs. Any ideas? I've tried a razor, sharpening an allen wrench, wire, and nothing works.

With a grindstone I managed to bring one of the screws to a point, it's not perfectly round but it is sharp. Is that OK? Should I do the other three even if they come out kind of ugly but sharp?

Mike's XS in Florida might have those bits. I replaced all four of mine this summer. Google Mike's XS, should be the first return.

                              Thanks for those links guys!

Only thing remaining is how to get the little nubs out. I've scratched the insides of the carbs trying .

I remember finding a thread a while ago that was very detailed about methods of removing the broken off nub but I can't seem to find it anymore!
