Carb body very chalky after Berryman dip

Bike: 1979 GS750, appears to be unmodified.

Hello everyone, I've been scouring the forums for a short while, having recently bought my first UJM a couple months ago. Tons of information here. I did a few searches and couldn't find a situation similar to this.

I finally got around to cleaning the carbs this past weekend. I purchased a gallon of Berryman carb dip, disassembled carb #1 and placed the body and little bits in the Berryman can for about 24 hours. On Sunday, I rinsed with cool water, then blew out the small passages.

I broke down carb #2, placed it in the dip, then went back to carb #1 to reassemble. I noticed that the carb body was very chalky, I could run my finger along the inside or outside and my finger would be completely grey. I left it as is to attend to other things.

Today I went back to carb #1. I tried rinsing it under hot water, didn't work. Sprayed it with carb cleaner, still chalky. If I was supposed to use hot water immediately after removal from the Berryman, would the hot water be completely ineffective 24 hours later? If that's the case, maybe I have to re-dip it.

My concern is putting it back together and having a negative effect when the fuel mixes with this chalky residue or when it gets drawn into the engine. If anyone has any advice, I'd appreciate it!

Wash it with hot soapy water. Use compressed air to dry it.

Lube the carb body with some type of spray lube after its dry.

If it was fresh water then thats not an issue

could it be that you carbs had a coat of oxidation on thme prior to the soak?
