    A good 79 Gs1000 engine rebuild manual

Can anyone make a recommendation on a engine rebuild manual?
I need to replace the head gaskets up, and maybe look at the crank for damage. it is running now but there was gas in the oil when I drained it.
it's not smoking and revs up nicely, the petcock needs rebuilding.
any suggestions and links, names etc would be appreciated.

Sounds like the petcock is the problem.
Be sure not to leave it in the "PRIME" position or it'll fill your crankcase(and or garage floor) full of gas.

Basscliff is hosting the factory Suzuki service manual for the GS1000. If you know your way around engines that should be all you need to know.

I would be sure as suggested to make sure it isn't your petcock, also I would check carb. floats and make sure float needles are ok and be sure float measurements are correct. These things can allow gas to flow when it shouldn't and will end up in your oil. Unless you really just want to rebuild. terrylee

shouldnt the float's stop this from happening?

Things get old ,also a full tank of fuel will put more pressure then they can handle .

The petcock had the vacuum nipple plugged.
it was drawing gas from the prime side only, which of course quickly overflowed. someone did not have a clue. probably when the petcock went bad, they tried to get fuel into the carbs from prime side, which they found out does not work well. engine is not blowing oil or smoke, but does need new gaskets. I did find the manual on BassCliffs sight, thanks.
