    Carbs to be rebuilt

Took some pictures today of my carbs before cleaning and rebuilding:

As I was reading through the guide in the garage section I noticed that I have an extra gang rail from the walkthrough. I was just wondering if this is the guide I should be following? Not worried about having to remove a few extra screws obviously, but this is my first carb rebuild so I just want to make sure I am looking at the right thing.

Yes, just follow the tutorial on the GSR home page. And check this info to make sure you don't snap off any float posts...

I didn't see anything "extra" in those pictures.

This is what I was referring to. I did not see this piece in the tutorial so I just wanted to check in that everything was okay.

Yep, that's your bottom rail. Be sure to use a #3 Philips in your impact driver to remove those screws, then be sure to remember to put that deflector back on between #1 and #2 when you put them back together. Without that deflector, the clutch cable can get caught in the throttle linkage and things can get real interesting REALLY quick.

That gang plate is standard. Photos in the tutorial are wrong. Good catch. Never noticed that before.

Thanks for the tip, don't think that would be the kind of interesting I am looking for.

My son wasn't looking for that kind of interesting, either, when it happened to him.

Had his girlfriend on the back, we had met at a shop where he was looking to get some stuff, then took the long way home. He called me to have me bring the trailer down to get the bike. He at least had the presence of mind to hit the kill switch and pull the clutch and roll to a stop on the (very narrow) shoulder.

No thank you, at least it turned out okay. Narrow shoulders are no fun though. I had my throttle cable end snap off over the summer on interstate entering St. Louis. It was very narrow also, however, I was lucky enough to continue down it a bit until the jersey barrier ended and there was room to stand on the side.
