    CV carb air box question

    Newbie question
    I have 1980 gs 850 i have a problem with the air box i have it says on it gs 750 gs 850 the mouth of my CV carbs messure 52mm across od
    the ID of the rubber boot is 42 mm that seems like a lot of space to make up it is cold here in Spokane but i dont think they srink that much
    am i missing some thing or have the wrong air box this bike was a basket case when i bought it

    It sounds like you have an air box off the earlier 850 motor with the VM carbs which have smaller throat sizes. Does the airbox have a part number on it? If so throw it up on here and we can check it out for you. But it definitely sounds like you have the wrong airbox.

    Both the '79 and '80 air boxes look to be the same unit except for the air intake boot size. Don't know if you can replace the '79 boot with the '80 boot though, if this is your proble. The 850 guys will chime in soon and let you know.

      I think you are right not meant for CV type carbs
      at any rate here is the number DGM 31773S
      thanks Now to hunt down the correct air box
