81 GS850GL airbox on a 81 GS1000GL
I have a 1981 GS100GL im building, and I bought a 1981 GS850GL airbox at a yard sale, will the airbox work just fine on the GS1000 or is the rubbers and openings to small for the mouths of the carbs?Tags: None

Hi,
I think the airbox should fit. You'll need to get new 'airbox to carb' boots to fit the larger carbs. The 850 uses BS32SS and the 1000 uses BS34SS. You should be able to make it work.

Diablo1982, check the vendor list in your "mega-welcome". Shop around a little for the best prices and shipping. Partshark, CyclePartsNation, Z1, and BikeBandit are a few of the favorites.

Carb inlet and outlet OD is larger on the 1000. I found this out when I did my engine swap. 1000 engine in a 850 frame. You'll need the correct boot for the 1000 carbs. Air box itself was the same on my G. The box is even stamped GS750, GS850, and GS1000 on the side.

82 Suzuki GS850GL Bought it 3 times, sold it twice, then traded for a nice 82 GS1100G AND a 93 Honda 750 Nighthawk, even WOW!

Ok so all i really need to do is get some bigger boots for the airbox to accomodate the GS1000 carbs?
What are the names of the parts that connect the carbs to the engine I know i need o rings for the metal retainers that bolt to motor, what are the rubber boots called and where can i locate replacements at?
Definatley want to hear this thing run after sittin this summer and now for the winter, I do have the carb ports closed off so nothing gets in the motor.

Hi,
You want #6. I suggest getting new clamps too.
In the parts fiche it's simply, HOSE 13881-49080.
For the "carb to engine" parts, they're called "intake pipes" (or intake "boots"), #27 and #28 (2 for the right side and 2 for the left side):
#27 - PIPE, INTAKE RH
13110-49100
#28 - PIPE, INTAKE LH
13120-49100
...where can i locate replacements at?

Hi,
Yes, #29 are the intake boot O-rings. See THIS GUIDE for more information about air intake repair. If you click the link below and go to my website, you'll find lots of information, "how-to" articles, and pictures about most of the systems on your motorcycle. I'm just trying to share the love.
