    Mac Exhaust

Seems to be some general dislike of the exhaust systems from Mac Performance. Why?

apparently poor quality. If you clean it up and do a quality ceramic coating it might be OK. Never had one so dont know for sure.

They use an all metal baffle that doesn't blow out, but sounds a little tinny compared to a glass baffle. As far as the finish goes, yea, not the best, but most other aftermarket pipes are in the same boat so I suspect Mac gets bashed more than they deserve.

I bought one years ago for s Seca 550.seemed OK to me.Had a mystery pipe on the GS650E that I got with the bike.It had a all metal baffle and I always thought it was a MAC.Had that bike for years and the pipe looked good the whole time.

Mac is a good exhaust system for street performance.
They had a ceramic-coated system in the late 80s and a stainless steal in the early 90s.
My Mac header is a Gemini system for a GS1150 and has a Kal-guard coating.
I haven’t used the current systems they sell but I sure they are good quality.

            Wow, im surprised?

I thought everyone on here LIKED the MAC's?

I've read nothing but good stuff about them.
And for $350, I would think it should be pretty good.

I like the MAC setup, because I plan on doing a Stage-3 Jet, and MAC allows you to pop the system in half, and just run open-pipe.

My current exhaust pipes do not let me do this, for some reason!
They are like fused together.....I have some mix-matched bolts on my 650 exhaust, so I'm thinking someone replaced it, at one point....

if you're looking for a chrome exhaust, avoid the MAC system. They have shoddy welds and poor finish compared to other systems. If you're looking for a cheap aftermarket exhaust, a used MAC could be down your alley. My MAC works great for what I paid for it.

I was surprised to find the MAC muffler is actually relatively quiet compared to other systems. It's louder than stock but quieter than other systems out there.

Who then, makes an decent aftermarket 4-into-2 that mimics the original equipment?

Are we stuck with either MAC or trying to find some NOS made from unobtanium?

It seems the only readily available header and exhaust systems available for the gs650 is the MAC. Not that I have a problem with that, but wondering if anyone else makes something... Anyone know?

I have never seen one in my xx years of riding. (I purchased a new 78 GS750E, so that gives you a ballpark idea of the value of xx.) I find the turned out mufflers of the MAC 4 into 2 absolutely hideous, but that's just me.

You might be able to find a used stock set, but that would just be a matter of chance.

Jama makes a 4:2 for the GS850. Hard to come by these days in the US though.

Yeah, I do too. They show a picture of megaphones on a bike, but don't have a set for sale like that.

This whole thing comes about because I'm adding the Bates luggage, so my VH 4 into 1 upturned megaphone interferes. I may keep the 4-1 header, and add a straight megaphone from J.C. Whitney or something as a temporary measure.

Anyone out there want to trade a nearly pristine V-H 4-1 for an OEM 4-2 system in equally excellent condition?

Fit is good, they just rust fast! The chrome rusted in less than 6 months. Performance is just ok compared to V&H. My V&H 4:1 lasted 18 years, with minimal care. YMMV

Appears nothing out there for the 650 other than Mac. Went ahead and ordered a new 4 into 1 this morning.

                            Maybe I'll have it coated.

Wow, only 50 bucks, if they're any good someone should grab them.
