Airbox boot size for BS32SS carbs?

If someone has the airbox off their GS850 ('80 onwards), could you please measure the ID of the airbox carb boots.

    Cheers
    Ian

Gee, I didn't realise that I had asked such a difficult question.

Oh well, you all have a happy New Year anyway.

Hi Ian, do you mean the size inside the rubber boot which pushes into the hard plastic moulded airbox from the air intake side or do you mean the size inside the actual hard plastic hole in the airbox.

My airbox is off, and one of the boots is off. (PO had crammed some makeshift POS in, had to be leaking) The empty hole is not circular! It is roughly oval with the short chord = 5.14 cm. and the long chord = 5.26 cm. Sounds to me like a prescription for links. I need to remove the other boots and see if they are the same way.

Just for the heck of it, would it be possible to measure the OD of the BS32 carb neck where it inserts into the airbox boot? This may be a way to back into the info that 49er is looking for.

I get 5.31 cm diameter OD for the carburetor air intake, and the same ID for a brand new boot.

The OD of the air box side of the new boot seems to be 5.07 cm. That is subject to error because the boot is soft.

The lip of the boot, which is inserted into the airbox, is about 5.19 cm.

I could imagine cutting a thin sheet of something to cover the airbox holes, with round holes to match the boot diameters better. Glue it to the airbox.

              Thanks for the measurements guys.

I was hoping to use the CV type boots to adapt to a set of CR31 carbs, but they are too big (49 mm against 52 mm). I've since decided to keep the CR's for their intended purpose and source some bigger manual slide carbs that will adapt well for road use, to the stock airbox.
