quick exhaust question to confirm search results

So Ive discovered via searching that

83 and up 750/700's have smaller exhaust ports than pre 83.

also that 86/87 gsxr750's have the same size ports/spacing so the header will fit.

The 1000/1100 ports are different so the pipes wont work.

    Now my question is....

Im looking on ebay and there are exhaust systems on there. Will any model GS750 83+ work or only say an E model? Im fine with modifying brackets and such.

    also one V&H system says...

    1983

    SUZUKI

    GS750 KATANA

    1980-1982 GS750E/L

    GS1000E/G/L/S 1978-1981

    GS1100E/ESD/L 1980-1983

    GS11000S/1000S KATANA 1982-1083

    GS1150S/E 1984-1986

Can anyone explain that to me? Why it list years/bikes I thought weren't compatible or am I misreading somewhere.

    **edit**

also found one that says it fits

    SUZUKI
    GS750t
    1982-1983

Is this a different engine type

If it isn't going to make it faster or safer it isn't worth doing

Ebay is the last source that you should turn to for reliable information about fitment. Most of the sellers are just trying to get rid of an unwanted item. If they thought that they could get away with it, they would swear those exhaust pipes will play the Star Spangled Banner when you fire the bike up.
You have to do your own research and become a knowledgeable buyer. If in doubt, ask the seller for specifics. That way if it doesn't fit, he will have to take it back. Most of them just tell you to consult your dealer. Like that would do any good.

Hence the reason I am asking on here. I didnt get the info for what will/wont fit from ebay I got it from here. Im just trying to confirm what I got from various posts on here. Im not going by what I read on ebay, just wanted to show what it says so that I can be sure if the seller(s) are full of it or if I am reading it wrong

Only 750 E and ES pipes fit at the head. L pipes will be larger diameter.

                Thank you.

so if its specifically for a GS it has to be a 1983+ 750 E/ES

How about the GSXR stuff? Am I correct that...

the 86/87 gsxr750's have the same size ports/spacing so the header will fit?

I just want to verify that I have gathered the right information from this site.

Only the '83 and up 700/750 E/ES models have the 42mm ports. All the oil-cooled Gixxers will fit at the head. Peg location might interfere with some of the Gixxer pipes. I have a Hindle system on my 700 that was meant for '86 and '87 GSX-R750s. I was running a Yosh Duplex meant for the last of the oil-cooled bikes. The Hindle fits better under the sump, the Yosh was right up against it.

                    Last question

so all oil cooled 750 gixxers will work or any engine size oil cooled gixxer?

Sorry for all the newbie questions but I really really appreciate the confirmation on the info. Its letting me know what options I have to find the best deal.

I can work around the foot pegs and rear exhaust mounts and things like that just trying to find what will fit as far as headers go mostly.

I may be parking this bike and just riding the goldwing while I work on the GS bit by bit.

The Hindle with my RS3 can.

                      The Yosh.

You can see I flattened the bottom of the header when I was running the '88 forks. Not a problem now with the new forks and the Hindle 4>2>1.

The 1100 pipes should work too. They might hang a little low under the bike though. Hindle has some of their pipes on sale right now.

I tried the 600 Bandit pipe and it is a no go, It is not tall enough as in from where it comes out of the head down and turns to clear the oil pan . Maybe a 1100 or 1200 bandit would be taller. The pipe other than that has nice lines with the bike and would be an easy fit. Head spacing is good. Maybe after market.

I've been off and on searching for a 4-1 header for my 84 Katana, which is basically the same bike. I have a stock header off a 1st gen GSX-R 750 that would be super nice if only it would clear the sump, and had mounting flanges.

I've used a stock exhaust off a pre Katana (88 - 96 or so) which pretty much bolts right on. This was a 4-2 pipe, but you sacrifice the use of your centerstand as the crossover pipe underneath fouls it. Also had to fab some brackets to mount the cans at the rear footrests. This tells me that a 4-1 off a teapot Katana would bolt right on. And be pretty cheap to find, I would think.

bringing up my old thread here because Im still a little confused.

I found a deal on an exhaust system taken off of a 1983 GS750E. WIll this fit my 85 GS700E since the bikes are pretty much identical.

I just want a simple yes or no for once lol
