    What will retrofit here?

OK..I am looking to get a nice looking set of mufflers for my 78 1000 C.. I got really nice pipes all the way back to the crossover. All i need is a set of nice cans to cut off and weld to the good headers and make one good set for the bike. I dont really care if they say GS 1000 on them or not because whose gonna really notice anyway? Was wondering what other bikes mufflers are the same and will retro fit for this project..and if anyone has some nice ones they will sell.

I've had this pair of harley takeoff mufflers taking up space in my shed for 3 years- look almost new and very similar to those on my gs650. Apparently harley guys discard stock stuff to improve their image, so dealers have lots of these lying around. I've had mine on CL ( in Maine ) multiple times with no interest. Your area might have same problem.

      Here's another option:

I put a pair of Reverse Cones on My GS850.....look all right, and the quality seems pretty good. No issues with rejetting, either.

if you want stock, I have a pair of decent shape GS exhausts, not sure which model hey were on, they were in the shop, and we get a bunch of GS750's and 850's fairly regularly, so its PROBABLY a set off one of them.

Yes Bob i am looking for stock cans for my 78 1000 C restore..I think, but am not entirely sure, that the cans are basically generic and the header pipe spacing is what varries from bike to bike..tell you what. When i leave the library and get back home i will measure the mufflers that i have from the spot they are welded to the pipes to the end..and an approximate measurement from the back end of the cans to the mounting hople..that way you can check this against what you have and if it seems good we can go from there. Can you PM me some pics? Are the insides solid? The problem i have with what i got now is that they are totally rotted out inside..baffles and all are trash..Anyone else with some input would be greatly appreciated.
