79 GS 1000 air box housing question?

Hi there, i've had the most amazing help so far on Oil filters, carb cleaning and have just got my GS running pretty well. Big thanks to everyone! I have got to ask this question cos it is bugging me concerning the amount of air that can go into the air box through the drain plug pipe situated at the bottom of the air box itself. bearing in mind the box sits between the carbs and actual air filter. This is the outlet pipe that drains any water or crap that is not wanted in the box. Because the filter itself sits outside the main box this means that when the engine is running it can suck air through bottom drain pipe into the main air box and straight into the carbs without going through the air filter? I just don't understand this! The link here should show the air box lay out and to me if the drain pipe and engine breather pipe are supplying air straight through the main box to the carbs then not a lot of air is coming through the air filter itself?
Can't seem to load a pic so here's a link?

If you order a service replacement hose it comes with a cap on the line. Apparently Suzuki realized the same thing as you and fixed the situation. In the real world the amount of air entering the engine that has bypassed the air filter doesn't seem to cause much of a problem.

Re-Cap on end of drain pipe tube

Thanks for that info, if Suzuki decided to put a cap on the end of the drain tube i think i'm going to put a bolt in the end of the tube, i can't live with the thought of the down facing tube sucking up all the dry road dust on a hot dusty Summer's day and all of this going straight into the carbs! Thanks again
