Are PILOT JET PLUGS a must on carbs ?

    Are PILOT JET PLUGS a must on carbs ?

    I still have all the original rubber plugs from the pilot jets but after cleaning the carbs the don't fit as snug as they did pre-cleaning.

    Are these things even necessary to be put back on or will they work just fine without the plugs ?

    you need them... the float bowls have a "step" on the inside that keeps them from falling out.

      Yes, you need them. The float bowl actually holds them down so if they to seem a little loose it's ok.

        what exactly do they do anyways? and why are they necessary? I had them on my 900C, and my friends kanotuna.

          If you look carefully, there is a passage between the pilot tunnel and the main jet tunnel. With the rubber plugs in place, all the gas has to go through the main jet. As the throttle is openend and the pilot jet useage is reduced as more goes through the needle circuit (which is directly above the main jet), all the gas still has to go through the main jet. Without the rubber plug, additional, unmetered gas can also come through that small opening between the tunnels.

          Yes, you need the rubber plugs.

                The GS850 manual on the Bike Cliff site has good information on that. I didn't know the pilots were fed from the main until I lookad there.
