Powdercoat Exhaust

I have a V&H 4-1 exhaust that was on my '82 GS850GL when i bought it last summer. They had painted it black and it just looks like crap. I had taken it off the bike last year to clean it up a bit before riding and also noticed that they didnt weld the back half of the exhaust onto the 4-1 coupler.

I am thinking about taking all off of the bike, stripping all of the paint off, welding the 2 pieces together, and getting it all powdercoated so it looks nice.

Any suggestions? Comments? This is my first bike, and my first dive into doing anything like this. Everything is helpful!

V&H didn't weld it by design. Why do you want to?

Specialized exhaust coating materials will hold up better than regular powder coat, which will turn chalky and burn on a header. I think at least one of these material is a powder so you might want to do some research before plunking down too much money.

stove enameling is better for exhausts. it can withstand the heat better than powder coating

CERAMIC coatings are the ONLY way to go on an exhaust system if you want durability & function with good looks. Plus, the ceramic coatings are available in different colors now & not affected by heat. They usually add a little power as they keep the heat IN the pipes which helps with scavenging to boot! Ray.
