    Metal Rescue.

I'm looking to de-rust my fuel tank, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this stuff.

B’laster products are born from professional applications that demand the toughest solutions, where only the strongest survive.

They have a video on removing the rust from a gas tank, and it looks pretty straight forward:

*BUY NOW-https://www.workshophero.com/shop/We have updated this video! Please go here to watch the newest version: https://youtu.be/-WuU1F2VLoIHow to de-rust...

    Any of you tried this?

So obviously a gallon wont fill anything except a mini bike tank completely..what are we supposed to do..set an alarm clock for every 4 hrs to keep turning the tank from top to bottom so it will get even time in the entire tank? search the thread using keywords such as eloctrolosis. Some people here have evn said to fill a tank full of white vinegar and the acidity will derust it in a day or two. If the vinegar truly does work it surely would be the least expensive " chemical " application.

Evapo-Rust worked amazing for me. $14 or so for a gallon that can be used over and over and over and over again if you filter it out. A gallon was plenty for my tank with washers and BB's. Took about 24 hours with turning and it was good to go and ready for metal etching and coating.

As far as turning goes, just do it whenever its convient for you. The stuff wont harm anything but rust.

i have soak parts in the evapo rust bath and yup it does an amazing job. Just dont think the cost of it versus a gallon of vinegar is very cost effective is all i was saying..I havene personally tried the vinegar bath but i heard it works..just takes about 2 days though if its really bad inside.

          Chuck,

Yes, turning the tank every few hours is exactly what should be done.

Materials like this, and Evapo Rust, do not eat at the good metal, which the vinegar will do. Vinegar is a relatively mild acid, but it will eat the metal.

I prefer to fill to the top and let it sit..My opinion is that its all coated equally and equally recieves the same amount of time uniformly throughout the entire tank. You want it to sort of etch the metal anyways..it creates a textured surface for the prefereed tank sealer to adhere to. Most commercial kits like Kreem use a mild acid in their soaking solutions to do exactly that. So it seems that vinegar wouldnt be any more or less abrasive than any one of them. I like th electrolosis that you and afew others have posted about. I was just expounding on what i had heard about using vinegar as a soaking solution.

By this do you mean you shook it with BB's?

BB's don't do crap, they just roll over the rust.

So the idea is to SUSPEND the positve rod so it wont touch any metal at all..correct?

Vinegar method.. Costco 4 gallons for $7.. $9 for 6 if you are doing an E tank

Molasses will also work if you can get it in bulk from a farm supply but it going to be messy.

Also no matter what you do you can't get it full to the top so flipping it over will have to be done.

                      Before

24 hours later after pressure wash and flush with rubbing alcohol to remove any water. I should have left if for another day to get the tiny specs left.
