    Jetting a 1982 GS550L

So, even though I could swear I've read similiar threads in the past, I can not seem to find them with the search function. I found some dealing with jetting but it's always a larger bike then mine.

So, I'm putting K&N pod filters on my bike, the oval duals since I can't seem to find any single pods that are short enough(my outside ports don't have much clearance with the frame). The stock filter system is to big of a pain to remove, and I was going to have to replace the filter and the airbox, since the airbox was so old and flimsy that the 2 middle ports would just bend in instead of going on the carbs, and when I went to wash the air filter it disentegrated. So screw it, I'm going with pods. Anyway, what are the general jetting guidelines for this. I'm going to have someone do the final adjusting with gauges, but I want to get it close enough to start it up and make sure it's good to go. Plus, the less the mechanic has to do the less I'll have to pay. I'm trying to avoid a stage 3 kit, since I already have an assortment of various jets for my carbs. Thanks.

By the way, I'm keeping the stock exhaust, and it has the stock carbs on it.

I think the issue will ultimately be with the needles, meaning the taper of the stock needles is not going to get you where you want to be in the mid-range...

Not sure if they make one, but I would just bite the bullet & get a stage 3 jet kit...

You can play with mains & shim the needles but in the end, i think the DJ kit will be less hassle.
