Recommendations from the guys who know!

My 79 gs1000L bobber project is almost finished, but the carbs are the last thing to be done. I've got a set of k&n pod filters freshly cleaned and oiled, just the head pipes no mufflers, now I ordered a jet kit off eBay, so how aggressive do I go? Any recommendations?

Last I checked, yes. But really, he doesn't need it with VMs. I'd suggest mains around 127.5-130 area, clip in the second slot from the bottom. Give that a shot. Fuel screws 1 turn out, air screws 1.5-2 turns to start. The VM needles are not only adjustable, they're pretty fast as far as the taper goes. He might get it pretty close without a kit. I had my cafe dialed in pretty good by hand jetting it. Lots of trial and error. And it's a bitch to have to resync every time you adjust the clip. But it can be done.

              My bike

Haha Im pretty sure the neighbors are okay with the noise, Ive got a 110HP VTX1800C with mean mothers exhaust with no baffles, theyve never said anything! I ended up with this 79 GS1000L for $50 from my friends dad, pretty sad shape, but I thought it would sure be a waste to let it rot and so Id make something out of it. Ive never messed with anything like this before so its definetly a learning process, thanks to the people who help

You assumptions are wrong. Your noise bothers your neighbors. If you got the balls to go ask them ...I got ten bucks that says they dont like it.

Good luck with the Bike....and the neighbors.

                  Neighbors and noise

Well, the lady next to me is legally deaf and the couple that live on the other side have a Harley, we've already had the noise talk and it doesn't bother either one of us or our wives. So noise wasn't the reason for the post, it was to find out who had any recommendations or suggestions for the bike. Honestly my brother inlaw lost his job, had to sell his bike so I've really considered giving him the bike when it's road ready. If anyone can throw more advice and less ****, send it my way, thanks!

I owe you 10 bucks . Sorry, I dont know a lot about carbs. Like TCK said...lotsa trial and error. I did that to a KZ650. Two shops adjusted the carbs and never got it right. I like stock air boxes.
