I know, I know, .... but yet another float hight question

I just copied and pasted the following from my "82' gs1100g" thread. I think I've read most of the stuff here as well as on Basscliff's site but I'm still unsure.

Carb ID for 82'1100gz,(bike I'm working on), is 49400, the carbs on the bike are 49380 for an 83 1100E. Planning to put all of the correct parts in the carbs for the 1100E and go from there.

I have the service manual for the 82' 1100gz from Basscliff's site. Knowing NOW that the carbs ar for an 83' 1100e, I looked at the service manual for that from Basscliff as well. The G manual depicts measuring the float hight from the top of the lip where the bowl fits into, up to the topmost flat of the float where the metal part is, the E manual depicts the measurement from the gasket surface up to the flat on the float material,(lower flat). Whitch one do I use?

And the airbox does not have the "snorkle". Should I bother trying to find one?

measure from the gasket surface (without gasket installed) and up to the top of the round part (lower flat) of the float for the 83 E carbs.
