    Carb Boots

    Hello

My 1977 GS750 may need carb boots replacing as the carbs pop and the bike doesnt like to run without choke, of all the carbs and service manual photos available i cant see any that show what the boots look like taken off the carbs, "o" rings are mentioned alot, does anyone have any pictures of their structure?

    thanks

Ah I see, the weight of the carbs may have flatten my O rings over time as it feels like its losing compression
      Thanks

You can not loose compression though the intake boots. Compression loss relates to either the ring and/or valve seal.

It will however, make you bike run lean as it sucks in air through the gap where the orings is supossed to be.

            Hi,

Have a look at the Air Intake Repair guide on my little website. It should give you a pretty good idea of the procedure.

After 30 years of heat and abuse, the rubber parts break down. If you replace them all you won't have to worry about them for another 30 years.

            Thank you for your indulgence,

The early 750 carb boots did not have O-rings, only way to tell though is to pull them off the bike.

And as cowboy said, you need to rejet the carbs if pods are installed or you can damage the engine, if it runs at all.

The carbs were sorted by previous owner, and was idling fine and responsive to the idle screw adjustments but recently its been popping in the carbs and the idle is less reliable, ie rev the throttle and the revs stay high for a bit before dropping

Did the bike sit over the winter?

You may have partially plugged carbs as well as air leaks

Were the pods on when you bought it? Or did you add them?

Pull the carbs and tell us

What size main jets you have?

                      What size pilot jets?

                      Where are the needles set?
