    $5 carb sync tool questions

Just finished up my $5 carb sync tool, actually it's more like $15 as I had to replace two plastic T's with brass cause I broke them.

I am having some trouble getting it to work. I attached the tubing to the carb tops, and started up the bike fine. Then all the water, slowly leaked out of the system and into my engine. Is this an air leak in my design somewhere?? That's what I am going with, but thought I'd ask first.

How do I get the water to stay in the loop?

i tried that and you need to put some serious restrictors for it too work, problem is i was never able to find restrictors that small. looking at your diagram for a two cylinder bike all you need is a piece of hose making a u turn at the bottom and restrictors on both ends to keep it from pulsing.

      Hi,

You can use longer tubes for your liquid and/or a heavier liquid, like ATF or two stroke oil.

This is my (Alan of Spofforth) home made manometer, cost 5GBP or around 8USD and takes 20 mins to make. Inspiration for this came from seeing posts on variou...

A manometer may be any device that measures pressure. There are many types of manometers, although the term typically refers to an instrument that uses a liquid column unless otherwise specified. A liquid column manometer uses a tube filled with a liquid to measure the pressure differential between the two ends of the tube. This type of manometer commonly measures the pressure of a gas or the pressure reduction of a partial vacuum.

Is it possible that there is more vacuum on one side of the motor pulling the water through?

I am diagnosing the ever common hanging idle issue.

Yes. That's why you are balancing the carbs, to get the vacuum even.

Did you bench sync the carbs first? Hanging idle is typically an air leak in the intake somewhere. But it could also be due to badly unbalanced carbs.

Gear oil and a longer loop solved the issue. Thanks guys.

Any chance you can chuck a pic or two up? I'm keen to try this a little later on rather than spending $70 - $100 on a tool I'll use very rarely...

Cheers KCorbin, just came across that this morning. Nice work

I've bookmarked the twin cylinder link you put in the post too.
