I got $30 in 8 main jets and $3 in washers for the needles. $100 in jet kits is over priced for pod and/or header jetting. Even if I get pilot jets I’d still have less then $60 in jetting.
4 cheap EMGO pods and cheap Wal-mart cups or whatever just to restrict the airflow down to equal K&N pods would still cause someone to end with $40 to $60 in pods. So restrictors aren’t going to save any real money over good pod filters. Still can use the cups to keep water out of the good pods and catch air for the filter like scoops.

Cheaper to buy a rope. Tie the bike to a tree and walk away....

Sorry for being flippant but just bung the airbox back on. Suzuki designed that thing to clean air and it does.

I can't see doing this to pods with the goal of making them take in the same amount of air under all conditions as the stock box.
Remember that the stock airbox is a TUNED part. It's not just a box that allows a certain amount of air in. It also distributes the air evenly and funnels it so the carbs can work well. The CV carbs are designed to work well with the factory airbox.
          You'll have issues.
And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

Oh no i think a carb board beer box with duct tape will be just fine, throw some blue plastic cups in there so when you need to drink in public you got it made.

If he needs a tune, then he should turn the radio up

And you still have stock needles, the most critical part of a jet kit.

"Carb board beer box". Say that 3 times real fast...
After you drank all the beer.

Yes the stock needle can be adjusted to work with pods and/or headers. For cams and big bores I’d change the carbs and ditch the crappy stock carbs. Jet kits are over rated.

you can get a front part of the airbox from 750 and just put a single pod on the end of it instead of air cleaner box gives you access to the battery, thats what i did last riding season only used a car cone filter i had to duct tape most of it though.

Have you ever seen the difference between a stock needle and one from a jet kit? completely different animals. A stock needle is the almost the same diameter from one end to the other. Needles from jet kits are tapered. You'll have flat spots with a stock needle.

Yes I’ve seen them. Not all Mikuni BS carb needles are the same and many are tapered. Jet kits are nice but most are not worth the money and a few are.

Thats basically what I did. No dealer around had a filter instock and I wanted to ride so I had a few old K&N's from a banshee I had with outerwears on them. I cut a shop towel in half and wrapped it around the filter and put the outerwears back over it. The bike runs great. I did have it jetted a little on the rich side before I did it though.

If you make some type of restrictor ya may not even need to rejet.

                              damn!
a lot of bad information in this thread.
you can not get GS 4cyl. vacuum carbs "correct" through the entire RPM range without a jet kit when the air box is removed.
shim those blunt factory needles till the cows come home...

Shimming jet needles works most of the time and when it doesn’t just change the needle. You can get Mikuni needles in different sizes and tapers.
