Missing fuel inlet needle valve seat clamp?

Recently rebuilt my stock Mikuni carbs on 81 GS750. Each carb was missing the fuel inlet needle valve seat clamp. I recently found them and can replace for $30 for a set of 4. My question is why would the previous owner remove that piece from all carbs? I noticed the clamp has a notch that prevents the float from going all the way up so why would the previous owner do that? I guess if there is a good reason to do that modification I could leave it? What do the clamps actually do?

Is there a little tab and screw to hold the float seat in place? I've seen those, and those larger pieces to keep the float from jamming as well. Personally, I'd just run what you have assuming you have something to hold the float seat from coming loose.

There is no screw or clamp. The only thing that holds the needle and housing is the rubber gasket that holds it down. Also I believe that the tab on top of the clamp serves a purpose.

Yes it serves a purpose, but since not all carbs have them, they obviously aren't needed. What is needed is some way to hold those needle seats in place. The pieces like you want are good...but I wouldn't pay $30 for a set. I may have a few spares, and I'm sure others here do too. I can check and get back to you if you want. Please drop me a PM as a reminder if interested.

Great I will save the money and put it toward some new air filters!! Thanks for the offer but if they are not needed I will not put them in. Saving up for some K&N pods, and just ordered Dynojet stage 3!
