Can you paint the factory exhaust?

I have original chrome exhaust on my bike as seen below here

The question I have is can I sand down the chrome exhaust tips & head pipes & paint it w/ high temp powder black paint such as pj1? or is it advised not to do so? The previous owner of my bike let it sit & collect moisture for so long I was able to polish out the rust pits but it left behind oxidation blemishes so to speak & I cannot get them to go away so I figured maybe sand the pipes down & paint em'? Any info is mucho appreciated.

No reason why not.... Ceramic coating will probably provide a longer lasting finish.

      Yeah you can..
The pipes might look a bit out of place without other parts being the same color.

D/A the heck out of em and paint em.

you really dont even have to sand but you will need to strip all the polish off of the chrome that you put on, mineral spirits work well for that, then go over with some real fine steel wool

Ya gotta scratch it or the paint wont stick, steel wool wont do it.

I D/A'd the aftermarkets on my 850 with really course(40 or 60 if memory serves) grit and its still iffy.

Bring them to a grit-blasting place & paint them immediately after.
