Petcock question.. With pics!
So here is my petcock and i want to get a new one/or a rebuild kit, whichever works best, but i don't know which one mine is. There are about 10 on Z1.com and i don't know which one is which. I searched but there are a million petcock threads but none of them seem to be of my year. My bike is an 81' GS750

Why not get an OE petcock? http://www.partshark.com/fiche_secti...1980&fveh=2136Ed

thats what i wanted, but i was just looking on Z1 and didn't know which was which. Even on that site, is it number 3 or number 5? I also didn't know if mine could just do with a rebuild or what..From what i've seen online, mine should have some sort of extension off of the fuel pickup, but it does not..

It's not #1, that's for a 1980 model. What kind of 750 do you have? Your petcock looks like one for VM carbs but that would make it a '79 or earlier.

That is your fuel line on the bottom, what pick up are you thinking about? That looks pretty complete there. Mine looks just like that. But I have the bass terd L. You have the vacuum line on there, should go between carbs 2 and 3.

Which 81 gs750 ? gs750L, gs750T or ge750E etc...
Different models have different tanks even if its the same year.
Why are you interested in repairing or replacing the petcock ?
I see a bit of sealant on the bottom of the filter and in my experience you can't buy just the filter.
Have had to replace the whole thing.Last edited by Mekanix; 05-17-2011, 11:52 PM.Stephen.

the reason i've been asking is everyone said they should be rebuilt or replaced if your bike has been sitting for a long time, which mine had been sitting for 10 years. I am doing the tank strip and line thing and didn't want to put it all back together only to have this thing leak. Thats why i'm in the market... The pickup i'm talking about is the one that extends off into the tank. You can sort of tell from the pics, but that one has rust in the screen..

Yours may have that pickup tube you've been seeing but its inside the filter.
Some have a filter like yours that don't requite a pickup tube because its built into the filter.
some have a pickup tube about 2 inches tall build into the petcock assemble and the filter goes over the tube.Last edited by Mekanix; 05-18-2011, 12:00 AM.Stephen.
