What is the piece that connects the carb to the cylinder?

Hi everyone, I am having significant issues trying to determine the name of a piece I need for my 1979 GS750 let alone where to find it. I am looking for the rubber piece that connects between the carbs and the engine (the pic below is not my own but it has a good view of what I am talking about). The person who had the bike before me got rid of the "seals" and replaced them with orange 'gunk' so I would really like to return to the original part. Any help with the name of this piece would be appreciated!

Z1 Enterprises has what you need. They call them carb holders, they're also known as intake boots. I believe this is the part you need:

Well there you go! Jeff, who works at Z1, says that Z1 has the OEM carb boots (Suzuki calls them "intake pipes" in the parts fiche). Z1 is a great place to shop. If you don't see what you're looking for on their website, just give them a call and they'll see what they can do. You'll find a fairly extensive list of our favorite vendors in your "mega-welcome".

Vmass, Z1 has lots of things they don't put on their website, so you know for next time. I always give them a call or shoot them an email first to verify whether they have it or not before ordering.

Wow! Thank you guys so much for your help. I am a school teacher and we are nearing the end of the year so I have been away from the forum this week trying to wrap up loose ends. That will teach me to post a question and assume it will take a while to get an answer!

DanTheMan, 7981GS, jeff.saunders, and BassCliff, thank you for the Z1 suggestion. My husband has been very happy ordering from Z1 for the past year and I think he is putting in an order soon so I might tag on my order with his.

Nessism and Vmass, I had not come across PartShark yet in my internet wanderings so that was a great find for a resource regardless of who I buy from this time. The site seems relatively easy to navigate.

Steve, nice job on finding the cheapest parts! I'll see what the overall prices come out to when I add on shipping from each place but, again, having G&S Suzuki as a resource is fantastic!

I am definitely a newbie to all of this after never having been on a bike at all a month ago to now having my license and a fixer-upper bike to make my own. I had never even changed oil in my car before so I had already made use of BassCliff's pictoral step-by-step to change the oil in my bike. Unfortunately I managed to strip the outer threads on all three engine studs that hold the cover on the oil filter so I am waiting for those parts to come in before I can finish the change

In the meantime I have whittled a large king and queen seat down to a one seater that I am trying to re-upholster myself, I have a new (used) chrome rear fender and chrome air covers to put on, I have a new headlight to replace the one that was integrated into the windjammer front that I removed, new mufflers to replace the ones that had rusted out, and I have been generally covered in rust trying to sand down and repaint all the surfaces that were covered in corrosion. The previous owner had really done a number on the wiring (he had wired in extension cords and other house wires!) to put on the external pieces himself so I this weekend is going to be devoted to trying to figure out what parts of the wiring I am missing. I've become real friendly with my wiring diagram over the last 24 hours.

As to the request for pics, I didn't take a picture before starting to strip everything off but here is a pic I found online that is the closest I can get to all the "stuff" that was on the bike previously.


And here is what it looks like after I stripped off the side bags, trunk, windjammer and seat but before I started messing around with anything else.



I'll try to be better about taking pics as I go along and I will post as I can. Thank you all again for the support and help! I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner but I really didn't expect to get an answer at all yet let alone so many!

yeah....

I was just trying to get the whole thing out of the way. It is currently in a pile with the other parts in another area of the same field It is already a pretty big bike for me so I didn't need it to be any bigger with all those extra pieces on there.

Woody states you should take picks of your parts and headers and post those. I'd be interested to see your parts you picked up!!!
