When to shim needle?
I am putting a V&H 4 into1 exhaust on and going with the recommended main jet and pilot jet sizes on the back of included sheet. Stepping up from 115 to 125 with main jets and up from 40 to 42.5 with pilot jet. No air box cover. These are the recommended sizes from that V&H paper that has been posted on several threads here. Carbs have new cycle o rings and have been cleaned. They have been bench synced and the bike starts well. However, this is a used exhaust with no baffle in the megaphone. But it is in excellent shape. Having no baffle, of course I am having issues. I have one coming this week and have just received my Morgan CarbTune. I have researched the tuning procedures and am clear on the process. However, 1 grey area. My question is: As a rule, Is it necessary to adjust my needle height when I go up in size with main jets or is this considered an option to try if engine does not respond well under load? In anyone's experience with jumping up in jet sizes, is the needle height adjustment a common practice?Tags: None

Most GS bikes respond well to moving the needle up, but you may as well do some test rides (after that baffle arrives) and see how the bike runs before jumping to conclusions.Ed
To measure is to know.
