    Gs1000s jetting

my Gs1085s is sick as a pig at the moment its running far to rich it has V&H pipe
with oval K&N filters ,Vm28mm carbs.
just wondering what size main jets other people have fitted to their Gss.

With your set up, you should be about

    Main - 122.5 (mikuni)
    pilot - 20
Needle - 4th notch (from the top)

What do your plugs look like? Post up a picture

Well I would have thought around 130 mains, standard pilots (maybe tweak the fuel screws out a bit) and needle in the 4th notch.

four the past yr its been on 140s on the Dyno last yr it was reading 90Bhp and 68lbs torque I thought was good for whats been done to the motor ,ever since i put it on the rd in the spring it wont run over 5500rpm.

Gs is currently being set up on a dyno at another dealer he says 115s are the way to go
he has spent hours trying to get it spot on i was just trying to find out what other people use.
has raised the needles 2 notchs aswell but i dont know which slot its on know Der?.

I would have thought 115 mains would be way to lean. Stating the obvious but are the filters clean and not too heavily oiled?

            I'm with HH

Most are in the 120-130 Mikuni (not DJ) range

            115 will be too small

that was wot I thought getting fast fed up with bikeshops around here dont fancey doing a plug chop around local Bypass either, dont fancey a dose of porridge.
3 months Gs been of the road 3 differant bikeshops none of them know wots up with Gs so
so far i have spent a fortune on this Gs and getting go no where fast.
wot i dont understand it was running fine when took it off the road for the winter.
are they putting something differant in our petrol and old bikes dont like it i ask i read loads of threads with simmilar probs as mine.

The only thing they're putting in petrol that's new is fresh £50 notes to keep the price down! There's nothing majorly new since last year that I know of (and my mate over the road 'designs' petrol for a living).

Why don't you have go at doing the plug chops yourself Steve? It's real easy, the guys on here will help you through it and as your bike is wearing K&Ns it'll only take 10 minutes to change jets.

Oh, were the carbs dry when you parked up for the winter? Or is it possible that the petrol evaporated away leaving chunks of what looks like dried snakeskin in there.

i forgot to drain float bowls yes so i know where you are coming from carbs been stripped and cleaned up teen times.
also it had ruffly 2litres of fuel in petrol tank it went a orange colour like (Cat pee) come to mind we drained that out put fresh fuel in it from a Esso garage about 100yrds up the road
you wont believe it was exactly the same thing Aaarrrrhhh it now have shell in it.
the other day i walked past the Esso garage they had closed it and the tanks were being
worked on i havent been back since.

                    Yeah

Go back to BassCliff's site and read about plug chops

All it takes is a spare set of plugs and a plug wrench

                    And, of course, some jets

If you want to give away your money that badly, I'm sure you can fly in someone here to get it fixed

But, you said it ran fine with your current carb set up last year?

I would have to somewhat agree with T on your jetting:

                      Main - 120-122.5 (mikuni)
                      pilot - 20
Needle - 3-4th notch (from the top)

That should be really close to correct.
