dumping fuel all over the ground.

Thanks to dave and the other guys in my other thread, my bike, sounds fantastic, smooth, revs great.... However....

One of the hoses is dumping gasoline all over the ground. Did I plug the wrong hose into the petcock? I know the main hose was correct, but the one behind that one... is it a short hose?

why would my hose that goes into that hole right beside the gear selector be dumping fuel on the ground?

It's the hose coming from directly inbetween air intake one and two. (from left to right, from driver facing position)

when I turn the bike off, it stops dumping fuel on the ground.


I also noticed, that my second throttle cable, though connected to the slide thing...doesn't do anything when I turn the throttle....normal?

That is a vent tube. Most likely you have a float sticking. You need to figure out which carb(s) have a sticking float.

Yep, that is a carb bowl vent tube that also serves as an overflow. So one of those two carbs is overflowing. THe carb bowl float is suppose to float up and push the inlet valve closed, so apparently that isnt happining. MAybe just some gunk stuck in there keeping the inlet valve from closeing.
Or... have you had carbs apart recently? Maybe the float height adjustment is way off (we can talk about that more if needed).

May really need to remove carbs and dissasemble. Or maybe you can try taking off carb bowl with carbs still on bike, and exersize the floats and spray carb cleaner up into the inlet valve and needle. Maybe just a much work as removing the carbs. I see you dont have an airbox to deal with.

Maybe if you took off the other pod filter you might be abole to see which carb is overflowing because it might also be overflowing into the carb throat that you can then see.

Yep, it stops overflowing when bike off because the vacuum operated petcock on the tank shuts off, like it should, that is what/why it is there for.

Second throttle cable. On GSes I am familair with there is one cable from throttle. MAybe you a seeing the cable from the choke. And,yah, the choke cable operates the slide thing, pulls that rod sideways.

Since we have no clue what bike we are talking about (hint, UserCP upper left menu item, update sig) you may have a push-pull throttle cable arrangement. Can't say much more until we know the model and year of the bike.

It may be that those vent hoses are just too low. On my 1100gl they are routed up over the airbox to hang down near to where the battery vent hangs. I would try pulling the tank off and routing them up a bit.

I am taking a guess that this is an 80-81 850G from the pictures.

If you look where the vent hose connects to the carbs, it is above the fuel bowls. That means the fuel must rise above the level of the bowls to reach the vent hose. Unfortunately, rerouting the vent hoses will not help the situation.

Koolaid, you may be correct. I have not looked for any other pics of bikes with pods too closely to see how they have routed their vents but there must be a reason Suzuki routed them up instead of back. I would not rule it out until the hoses were routed in a factory configuration.

Just now remembered another point. There is another of those vents between carb 3 and 4. Do you get fuel out of there as well? Do you only get fuel from between 1 and 2 when the bike is on the sidestand?
