1982 GS650G pet cock or needle & seat

I have a 82 GS650G that ran fine. I now have an issue where the gas seems to be running directly through the valve into the engine and into the crankcase. Should the valve flow any fuel while the engine is not running? Would it be the valve or needles and seats in the carbs? How to tell if valve is leaking and replace or rebuild(former owner said he just rebuilt the unit prior to me buying it)?

If the engine is not running and you leave the petcock on Prime than yea, fuel will continue to flow since the float needles aren't designed to hold fuel in. Might want to take a look at that petcock of yours and see if it's not leaking.

If you didn't leave it on PRI and fuel is leaking into the engine anyway, you need a new petcock. it should shut off completely when there's no engine vacuum. The rebuild kits don't always fit so well, a new one is best. I am getting a little gas into the oil on my 650G, just got a new one from Z1 enterprises for my 650G for $55.
