Very odd sudden carb issue.....?
Today I went for a long ride with my friends ~150 miles, initially my bike was running great, good power and response, but after about 100 miles it took a dump, suddenly started running really rich judging by the exhaust smell. i turned the choke off, and still terrible, i was ridding it quite hard prior to this happening, on a side note last week the carbs were completely cleaned and rebuilt new gaskets, needles ect, and fuel screws were set by my local dealer. these are the mikuni vm22 on a gs550.Tags: None

Is the fuel tank clean and free from rust? Could be something is fouling a float or two. Another thing to check is the points.Ed
To measure is to know.

If you've got points, one set failed and you are running on 2 cylinders
The other 2 cylinders are just pumping gas, thus the smell1978 GS 1000 (since new)

yes i have points that makes alot of sense, ill replace them and try that out. I didnt ride the entire distance with the choke on, just wanted to rule out the choke being on as a possibility. Thanks
