1/2 an airbox and 1 big pod?

In my never ending search of ideas I have this vision of using the carb half of the stock airbox with a single, large pod filter where the second half would normally join. Then while looking through my motivational pics I've saved I see it's been done. (below thumbnails)
So I know it is possible, but is it a simpler approach to 4 individual pods tuneing issues? I have an '80 GS750LT (TSCC), already going with a Kerker and Supertrapp exhaust and am currently in the middle of the carbs.
Thinking a Dyna-jet stage 1 kit for this type of set-up going by their desriptions...
Thoughts or better yet Experiance anyone?

As your stock airbox/filter housing is already basically the same thing, why not?
Naturally, without the filter box, it will get access to MUCH MORE air so jet accordingly.
Plenty of people here run them without the top lid on. (some have no choice as it came missing when they got it.)
Perhaps some of them could point you in the right direction as to jetting.

Thats why I thought a stage 1 would be best suited. No internal mods to the engine, just better breathing.

STAGE 1 kits are fully adjustable to allow the use of a well designed aftermarket pipes and stock replacement air filters like K&N. Stage 1 kits are designed to improve throttle response and driveability and in most cases power increases...

Changing the jets is the easy part.
Removing and re-installing the carbs is another story... http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...d.php?t=179253

        Check out around post #14.

That big single pod is exactly what I was thining of for mine.
Have you got a result with this, HD?

She's not running yet but here is what I have done...

The Uni Filter 2 1/2" neck straight air filter snugged down nicely on the 60mm neck of the air box. Plus you can see in the last picture the top of the filter is under the frame tubes so there isn't an issue with the seat fitment.
I was hoping to get her to be a runner by thie end of this week, but life got in the way. Once it happens and it is running well I will update this as well as my build thread thats in my sig...

That's cool. You are always doing something different HoosierDaddy. Quick question. Did you happen to see if anyone has a really wide pod type single filter? I like the look of a pod but don't want individuals. One big pod would be slick if I could find one and make it work.

                Thanks,

Check www.Summitracing.com look at all of the K & N ones.
They are listed by intake diameter and made in various shapes/ lengths.

K&N makes a couple of them that I was checking out. Flange size is right to fit my 750's airbox 60mm neck, and their websight shows actual dimensions, but I found the Uni for ALOT cheaper..
                    Check out K&N's RC-9830, RC-1624, or the RC-70032

Kparkfan's former 80 1100L (chain drive) had the big single KN filter without the back of the box. It actually works pretty well, but we found and installed a rear box because he wanted it stock.

updates on this? I have a mangled rear airbox and this may be my only hope...

That's pretty much how mine came when I got it, but the filter was smaller than the one pictured above.
I got bad mileage and ran rich, but then I held out for an airbox instead of rejetting.
