    Help with petcock!

I am brroke down in Chipewewa Falls, Wi with a leaking petcock on an 81gs450l. It is leaking from either between the plates and or the vacuum port. Is there a down and dirty way to keep it from leaking?

We are 250 miles from home and I dont know the area well enough to know if there is a salvage yard nearby.

Put it on prime and block off the vacumm port.

The 450s didn't come with that POS.
Plus I think it was only in 80.
        How's it going big man?

It leaked a small plastic cup full over night. We are going to stop at an autoparts store in town to get some vacuum plugs and give that a try. That fix did cross my mind and you seconded it. I just wish it was not leaking from tthe body as well. Old bikes. Got to love them.

I don't believe you'll have a reserve if you run it in prime.

That is correct, it will run it right to the end.

Is the bike running at all?

Did you check all the fasteners?
It could be leaking due to something vibrating loose.

Got back home by plugging the vacuum lines but it was still leaking from the housing. That seemed to quit leaking half way home. I was aware of the lack of reserve so we filled up before our normal milage. We rarely run them to reserve anyway.

                      Thanks for all the help.
