77 GS400 carb trouble

I just bought a bike that sat for 20 years..i cleaned the carbs and got it running pretty good but now one of the carbs is spitting sputtering and back firing a lil fuel at idle and will shut the bike off and when i push up on the the brass vacuum piston it will go up fine but then will jump and not return smooth when it comes back down like the other one ..anyone have any suggestions?

If the slides aren't sliding up and down smoothly and properly, then either the clean wasn't thorough enough or the diaphragms or springs need some further attention...

Depending on the initial condition of the bike, how long it's been sitting neglected or abused, there are probably several things that need attention. Check for bent or damaged slides and check for holes in the diaphragms.
