The main air jets are different. They are the one jet you can't replace. It is at around five o-clock on the filter side of the carb.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

For what it's worth, my 1100G has E carbs on it. E carbs have one of the idle bypass holes that is larger and the emulsion tubes, (neelde jets, not the needles), are smaller.
Bypass holes for a G are all .08mm and the emulsion tubes are X-3.
For an E, three of the bypass holes are .08mm and one is .09 and the emulsion tubes are X-1. Other than that, everything is the same, and you are correct, you will have to put the correct jetting for your bike.
