Swapping my V & H for stock exhaust on GS1000

Please tell me I won't have to do more carb work!!

I just rebuilt carbs with all new parts ( K & L kits and O-ring kit), will I need to do additional carb work when I switch to original exhaust?

I remember back to 1983 when I bought my 1st new bike... It was the last CB1100F available around my area. I brought it home and put a kerker on it. No adjusting anything, ran great for 14k miles, when I sold it.

Please don't ask what happened to the original pipes, it hurts too much to tell the story!

Any idea if the carbs were re-jetted for the V&H pipe?

Might not matter, there is a chance that they were mis-jetted when you installed the K&L kits.

Carb rebuild kits are notorious for using less-than-original quality parts, so there's no telling what you really have in there now.

If you didn't re-jet for the pipe, you probably shouldn't have to re-jet when you go back to stock, but good luck with the kits.

So you got that 1000L exhaust system? Had a chance to fit it up yet?

It is in transit....the V&H is very quiet, can't imagine the stock pipes will be much quieter.

I did a cross reference check with S vs L pipe. According to my research, all pieces are the same with the exception of the right side shield.

So, if I can find an S R.S. shield, I will have a stock exhaust!!

When it is all done...I hope it is worth half of what I put into it.

Steve, I don't think it matters, I installed the jets that came with the K & L. I think they are 115?

115's should be fine. You might want to double check the pilots too.

I thought the muffler parts were similar, but slightly different between the L and S. Regardless, hope the system bolts up for you.

The part numbers are the same, if it doesn't work, I will offer them up to an L owner.

Please forgive, I don't want to sound argumentative, but want the proper info to go into the archives in case someone looks it up later...

The head pipe part numbers between the 1000ST and 1000LN exhausts are the same. The muffler part numbers are different. I think (guess) the main difference is some strategic dimpling of the mufflers, such as for the brake lever, and maybe for the axle. At any rate, I'm looking forward to your assessment of how they fit.
