    Exhaust gasket removal help.

    Since my 850 (Dirtbag) is in the shop, I'm coming back to my baby Broken (650G). I've got a new to me, V&H 4-1. The old 4-2 is off and now I'm tryin to figure out how in the bluehell to remove the old exhaust gaskets. I tried to use a small pick and small flathead screw driver and nothing. Whats the trick to gettin these old ones out??

    Just keep digging, they can be troublesome to remove. A small pair of needlenose pliers may help too.

    First take a very close look and make sure there are some there to begin with.

      After stuffing a rag in the exhaust, I sprayed them with a shot of WD40 through the straw to make sure I could identify the copper, and then slipped a pick under one edge. Maybe a blast of air could nudge them a bit?

        Big as$ screwdriver and pry them out.

          Just a thought...if you are not planning to reuse them, you could try hand-screwing in a small metal screw

            The new gaskets I have are some kind of green material in the middle of 2 silver rings. I'll give the wd40 method a shot.

              I have a set of picks from HF -one is a 90 elbow.wedge it in there and pry

              Otherwise, give it a good smack with a screwdriver and a rubber hammer parallel to to the port sidewall, maybe a couple of smacks. Use a thin little screwdriver and I think you'll find it goes in between the port wall and the gasket, then pry it out

              You usually have to distort the gasket to get it out

                I actually found that 90* circlip pliers worked really well. Once they made contact with the gasket, I opened them as far as possible and a few quick yanks got all four out. I'm guessing they were original 1980...there were 2 other sets over top!
