    Carb throttle setting

Well I got ahold of a carb sync tool, but one of the brass nipples that go to the carb was broken off most of the way. I got it hooked up and the left two carbs are bouncing all over the place and the right two are fairly steady with the inside #3 holding the best.

Just as I was about to start adjusting my boy accidently snagged a hose and broke another brass fitting, this one for good. So I had to take the carbs off to the broken thread piece out. So does anyone have a good starting point to get the carbs synced? Is there a feeler gauge point where I should be? Until I find some form of a new fitting I'm screwed.

You can get new nipples at Z1. Cost is $8.26.

Next, WHAT BIKE DO YOU HAVE???

Suggestions on what to do next will depend on what carbs you have.

Either way, don't put the carbs back on the bike yet.

By the way, no feeler gauges are used to sync the carbs.

sorry..... 80 GS550. Got this bike as a project. Someone has but the exhaust off, and running pods, has 96 size jets. Was having an issue that two right carbs weren't getting fuel, but now I'm down to this! Getting so so close!!!

Size 96 jets? They are not Mikuni jets.

If they are DynoJet jets, they would be about 90 in Mikuni sizing.

Stock Mikuni jets are 92.5, so you are already running leaner than stock, then you have pods and a pipe?

Can't say for sure, but I would GUESS that you should have something in the range of 105-110 (Mikuni) mains in there.

If you have a suggestion on what size I can get some ordered tomorrow! I think I have plates opening/spaced all the same or at least close by eye. They were way off! I just need to know what kind of opening I should have on butterflies.

96.5 is still NOT Mikuni sizing. Mikuni jets were numbered every 2.5, as in 90, 92.5, 95, 97.5, etc.

Not sure that DynoJet jets were numbered in halves, though.

If you do a visual check for your bench sync, close them down to just the tiniest sliver of light coming through, then open the idle screw about 1/2 turn.

So what should I do about jetting? Hate to put it all back together if it isn't right.

One way or another, you are going to have to put it together and test it, then see what your plugs are telling you about jetting.

You can use your current jets and confirm that they are wrong or you can get some BIGGER jets and hope you get close.

Doesn't really matter which jets you start with, just plan on taking the carbs out more than once.

I think majority of my problem exists in the sync deal. It ran fine, then we had to remove carbs to clean them and I think that's where things went downhill.

I feel you on that. Everytime I take the carbs out something always ends up outta whack, for example I just raised my float level 2mm on each float because they were way off and one cylinder kept running lean or not firing 1/2 the time. And now I resynched them to check for changes and they were about spot on, and even after doing the "highest rpm Method" with the mixture screws I am coming out waaay to lean with no leaks. I think my bike is going through menopause the way shes been acting.
